5 Reasons Why Entrepreneurs Fail

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

It has been observed that a many people are turning from 9–5 job towards entrepreneurship. But have you ever thought ‘ Why’?

Well, this increasing rate has got lots of reasons. If we look deeply into the matter, we will come to know about many attractive reasons.

Donna Kelley, an associate professor of entrepreneurship at Babson College, conducted a research about the growing rate of entrepreneurship in America. In her study, 43% of Americans said that there are good opportunities for entrepreneurship in their country. And above that, 56% of Americans said that they believe they have resources which are needed to start any business.

Some say they have the resources, some say they have the skill, while others say that they have a suitable workforce… we often hear about the workspace, for some people a vacant workspace can be the reason to have their own startup.

Sounds a bit too much … right?

I know, it does!

Well, that isn’t a really bad reason to be honest. You might start a venture with a thought of utilizing a vacant space but you have to turn your business idea into a workable plan.

Yes, it is true that some would work and some would fail… it all comes down to how you carry the whole thing.

There should be balance in every aspect; from money to workspace, from labour to the skill, from development to the marketing.

Now…. do not get confused on whether to go for it or not or how to go about it okay. Yes you do have a right to enter entrepreneurship by all means if you have got enough resources but you should be a bit vigilant about how to begin.

Today, this post will tell you on what loopholes entrepreneurs usually leave which makes them fail badly at becoming successful entrepreneurs.

Here you go with the 5 Reasons Why Do Entrepreneurs Fail:

1. Lack of Focus:

A mistake that entrepreneurs usually do is not focusing on their capability. The recent trend of becoming a ‘Jack of all Trades’ is destroying the importance of focus in the growing startups world.

But in order to succeed you should know that focus is very important, because this keeps you directed and attentive.

The best way to keep yourself focused is to opt what you love because in this manner, you will never ever lose the interest in what you are doing.

Look at what Bruce Lee says about Focus:

Check on How focused are you on your capabilities or your possibilities? This will definitely help you observe on where you stand.

2. Treating Yourself As A Monopoly:

Most of the entrepreneurs start with a mindset that they are the only ones in the market. While in reality this is the biggest mistake they make…

There are thousands of players in the market already. Thinking that you are the best in town is a good strategy but assuming that you are the only one is definitely not a good idea.

Realizing that you have competition around you and conducting a proper competitors analysis is the best way to combat the intense competition and become a leader.

So a full-fledged competitors analysis is a must for any startup.

3. Relying On Yourself Alone:

Well, one of the most important concepts in entrepreneurship is ‘Empowerment’. It is basically about first empowering yourself and then others around you.

Yes, it is true that you are the main force of the startup that you are launching but thinking that you would do it alone is a bad idea. Because ‘No’, that is not the truth, you will be needing a lot of people on the way from whom you would be requiring help.

Entrepreneuring is about trusting and empowering other people along, dedicating responsibilities and getting the best of the skills from people you know. It is about public relations and using your social skills.

You definitely need Teamwork and Collaborations when becoming an entrepreneur. This teamwork and collaborations will allow you to dig out many kinds of talent that different people have around you.

4. Lack of Funds:

Another problem with the most of failing entrepreneurs is not putting in the required amount of money. It is often seen that people pursue their brilliant ideas without realizing that they lack proper funding which are needed for any particular business.

It is always a foolish decision to start without sufficient capital in hand. When starting up any venture, some elements are necessary for your venture. Among these, your capital is of utmost importance and you simply can’t think of pursuing any idea without it.

A stable and well thought out startup definitely needs a solid amount of funds so that everything should have a proper start without sacrificing on any stage.

You see, today in this era everything requires money. I am not saying that you should throw your money at every stage, obviously there should be a balance, an intelligent use of your funding/capital. But you definitely need an optimal amount of money to start with.

5. Lack of Marketing:

Another mistake that entrepreneurs make is the lack of marketing. Many people think that they will do well without the proper marketing. But they are simply mistaken!

Because marketing is something which you cannot just let go like that, it is what makes you who you are.

Ignoring marketing simply means that you have opened up a company and you do not want people to know about it. Now how you do this would ever be beneficial for you?

Obviously, it would not be!

You have to market your new brand and tell the relevant audience about it… even if you do not want to go for TV commercials or any other expensive medium, you can use social media because that is a relatively cheap interface. And then with its use your word of mouth can be created further on.

And then there are various ways of marketing today; content marketing, email marketing, SEO and many more.
